Display Field: feat_type

Type: Feature Layer

Geometry Type: esriGeometryPolygon

Description: Non-Motorized infrastructure polygons (sidewalks, shared paths, etc.) within public spaces in Kankakee County, Illinois. Features are categorized by facility type. Features were created by referencing the 2020 ortho image of Kankakee County (Will County (2019) for areas in Kankakee River State Park) and GPS points collected for features newer than the ortho image. Sidewalks at Bishop McNamara High School are included. Portions of Kankakee River State Park have not been included. This includes areas south of the Kankakee River and some areas in Will County. For locations where a sidewalk and driveway intersected, features such as concrete or asphalt driveways and alleys were determined based on interpretation of the ortho image. Where it appeared that a sidewalk cut through a driveway or similar feature, the feature was categorized as sidewalk. If the driveway or similar feature appeared to cut through the sidewalk, the feature was categorized a driveway, alley, etc.The category for "Marked Crosswalks" is used for areas where pavement markings delineating a crosswalk was observed in the ortho image. The features in the dataset are generally representative of the areas from the end of each sidewalk on either side of a road and do not necessarily represent of the location of the markings on the pavement in the ortho imageThe category for "Unmarked Crosswalks" is interpreted as an unmarked area of a road typically at intersections, that has sidewalks approaching from both sides of the street, but does not have pavement markings delineating a crosswalk observable in the ortho image. The presence of marked or unmarked crosswalks in this dataset in not intended to be used for the purposes of safety or suitability for crossing a road.Feature widths were generated using centerline transects distributed along the length of each feature and are intended to be used as estimates. Feature widths were not derived from any engineering plans or field measurements.
